How to Start Microdosing Mushrooms: A Gentle Beginner’s Guide

How to Start Microdosing Mushrooms (Gentle Beginner’s Guide)  A simple, gentle guide to microdosing mushrooms for beginners: dosage, schedules, and how to start without the guesswork. Made in BC.

Curious about microdosing but not sure where to begin? You’re not alone, and you don’t need to figure it out the hard way.

More people are microdosing mushrooms than ever. Recent reporting suggests millions of adults have tried psilocybin in the past year, and about half of them were microdosing: taking tiny amounts to feel a little steadier, a little more present, a little more like themselves. Many of them are women looking for something gentler than what they’ve tried before.

If that’s you, this is your starting point. Here’s how to begin: calmly, simply, and at your own pace.

What microdosing actually is

A microdose is a sub-perceptual amount of psilocybin. That means you shouldn’t feel “high.” No visuals. No loss of control. Nothing that gets in the way of your day.

What people tend to notice instead is quieter: a little more focus, a little more emotional steadiness, a bit more room between a feeling and your reaction to it. The goal isn’t a breakthrough. It’s a better baseline.

Think of it as showing up for your life your mornings, your work, your kids with a touch more ease.

How much should a beginner take?

Start low. Always.

A common microdose range is roughly 0.05g to 0.3g of dried mushrooms, and beginners are best served at the bottom of that range. You can build from there once you know how your body responds. There’s no prize for starting high, the whole point is subtlety.

This is exactly why our collections are dose-laddered. EasyDays is our gentlest starting point at 60mg, designed for people taking their very first step. From there you can move up to FocusDays, BetterDays, and beyond, only if and when you want to. (Our Dosage Guide walks through each level.)

One more thing that matters for beginners: how it lands in your body. Some psilocybin products can leave you queasy. Ours are made with Semperviva, a psilocybin-active mycelium that softens the onset and helps everything settle gently in the stomach. Gentle isn’t a marketing word for us. It’s the design.

Choose a schedule

Microdosing works best with rhythm, not randomness. Two beginner-friendly protocols have stood the test of time:

The Fadiman protocol: one day on, two days off. Dose Day 1, rest Days 2 and 3, repeat. Most people run this for four to eight weeks, then take a couple of weeks off.

The Stamets approach: a few days on, a few days off, repeated for about a month before a reset.

You don’t have to follow either one perfectly. What matters more than the “right” schedule is awareness: notice patterns over weeks, not hours. Some people thrive on structure. Others do better with spacious intervals. Your nervous system isn’t a template – so observe, adjust, and be patient with yourself.

How to take it (the part that makes it easy)

The format you choose matters, because the easiest routine is the one you’ll actually keep.

  • Chocolate: for people who want their microdose to feel like a small daily pleasure. Our bars, truffles, and bonbons are handmade in Vancouver by our own chef.
  • Capsules: tasteless, discreet, and familiar. Perfect if you just want consistency without thinking about it.

Both come in microdose or purely functional versions, so you can match the ritual to your life. Not sure which is for you? Our 2-minute dosage quiz points you to the right product and dose based on how you want to feel.

A few things to know before you start

Microdosing isn’t for everyone, and starting well means starting informed:

  • If you’re pregnant or nursing, or have a personal or family history of psychosis or mania, this isn’t the right fit.
  • If you take medication, especially SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs, or stimulants, talk to a qualified clinician first, as interactions are possible.
  • Always follow your local laws.

If you’d like a real human in your corner, we keep a network of vetted coaches and counsellors who support people through microdosing journeys of all kinds. You can find a coach here.

Why where you start matters

You have the right to feel better. Not perfect. Not fixed. Just better. Starting gently is how that begins.
